Thygeson Construction was started over 55 years ago by its founder Duwayn Thygeson. Duwayn began working in the construction industry at the age of 12, helping run dump trucks and working on the farm. He quickly grew interested in learning the industry.
He went to Alaska in the mid-1950s and helped build sections of the Alaska Highway. It was during this time that he saved every paycheck for 2 years and came back to Minnesota planning to start his own business.
In 1959, he purchased his first dump truck and started hauling for various companies in the area. In 1961, he married Wenda the co-founder of Thygeson Construction. During the next 40 years, together they built the business up through good and bad times. They built it into one of the area's premier aggregate suppliers.
Moving into the 1970s and 1980s, the second generation of the Thygeson family joined the business ranks. The business has had all five of their sons working at one time or another in various roles and duties. Currently, three sons Mike, Bruce, and Monty are helping their dad run the day-to-day operations after Wenda passed away in 1999.
Thygeson Construction currently services most of NW Minnesota with aggregates and various rock and landscaping materials. We also do a wide variety of highway work for MnDOT and multiple counties and municipalities.
Our focus has always been customer service. Duwayn has always said, “No job is too big or too small”. Pride in our work and customer service will always be a focal point in our business.
